A trip's **Finances** show what the trip costs and who still owes whom.

===== Recording an expense =====

There are several ways:
  * In the trip via quick access **Finances** → “+”.
  * Directly in an **activity** (costs section) – the expense is then linked to it.
  * On the go from the home screen with **“Quick expense”** on the Today card.
  * From the **app icon** (long press → “Quick expense”) on iPhone and Android.
  * When **importing a booking**, the AI takes over the price automatically.

In the expense sheet you enter:

| **Amount and currency** | any of 150+ currencies; your destinations' currencies are listed first. The app remembers your last choice. |
| **Title** (optional) | e.g. “Dinner in Alfama” |
| **Category** | accommodation, transport, food, activities, other … |
| **Date and activity** | when and what for |
| **Who paid?** | the person who paid in advance |
| **Split** | **equally** among selected people, **custom** (amounts per person, with chart and buttons “split equally” / “fill remainder”) or **info only** (no shares) |
| **Paid status** | per person, whether their share has been settled |

==== Currencies ====

  * Foreign currencies are converted at the **rate on the day you record them**, and that rate is **frozen** – later exchange rate changes don't alter old expenses.
  * The display currency follows your device and can be changed in **Settings**.
  * A simple **currency converter** and a **tip calculator** are available under [[en:tools|Tools]].

**Settlement** calculates who pays whom how much – with **as few transfers as possible**. Mark completed payments as paid.

**Good to know for group trips:** participants only record **their own expenses**; these stay on their device and are not visible to the leaders.

===== Budget =====

  * Set a **budget** per trip (when creating it or in Finances). The totals card shows how much has been used.
  * Once you've completed trips, Explority compares your planned daily costs with previous trips – preferably in the same country (“⌀ €68 per day in Spain”).
  * The **Budget planner** under [[en:tools|Tools]] shows all trips with their totals at a glance.
